Christian Singles Ministry

Christian Singles Ministry London

London is one of the most diverse cities in the world, and our single’s ministries mirrors this, with Christian single adults from all walks of life coming together to worship and grow together. Regardless of relationship status, career, or stage of life, we all share devotion to the mission given to us by Jesus and our singles ministries are a vital part of our ever-growing church family.

We are a group of single Christians who are devoted to Jesus Christ and the mission he gave us. Some us are students, some live with family, some live alone, but we all share a common purpose and come together to worship and share our life experiences with each other in the eyes of the Lord

Why Christian Singles Ministry?

Being single as a Christian is not always easy. There are some who believe marriage to be a critical part of a good Christian life and the pressure from family, friends, and society can feel overwhelming.

This stigma can lead to some churches devaluing the contributions of single people with a focus on couple’s ministry and a sense that you can only truly get involved with their work once you have ‘settled down’.

We disagree with this completely. Our singles are not simply married people waiting to happen, they are valued and integral parts of our church family not matter if they are single by choice or circumstance. After all, Jesus was single for his entire life on earth, so the idea that singles cannot live as fulfilling or God filled life as any married person is certainly not taught in the Bible.

Single People in the Bible

How are single people represented in the Bible? Does God want us all to get married? Are we failing him if we do not?

Marriage is mentioned throughout the Bible from the very beginning of Genesis when Adam and Eve were made for each other by God and told not to be ashamed of being naked before each other (Genesis 2:25).

Throughout scripture, marriage is referenced a significant amount with guidance and laws given to God’s people that protected women through marriage. At the time, law stated that only men could inherit property, and marriage was essential for the welfare of women and to protect them into old age.

Fortunately, we have come a long way since then, and women no longer need the support of a man to sustain themselves or build a successful life for themselves. In the modern Western world, we all have the freedom to choose who, when, and if we marry and being single is a is a perfectly acceptable choice.

There are many stories in the Bible that we can learn from but whose message must be interpreted in relation to the world in which we now live. The Bible does not give a definitive answer on whether marriage is universally good or bad but does give plenty of examples of people living Godly lives, and sinful lives, both single and in a marriage.

The truth is that the ‘right’ thing for each person is dependent on their own situation, their relationship with the Lord, and the plan that He has for them.

Paul warns us in the Bible that married people can become distracted by marriage, worrying so much about pleasing their spouse that they forget or become unconcerned about pleasing the Lord (1 Corinthians 7:32-35). He even goes so far as to offer his opinion in a letter to the Corinthians that if a person is not married, he would advise against it (1 Corinthians 7:25-36) although it is worth noting that this was in reference to the potential persecution of Christians for demonstrating their faith in Christ at a time when the authorities would torture and kill those who expressed their belief in Jesus as the son of God.

No matter what decision you make in your life, staying devoted to the Lord is more important that your relationship status.

Trust in God’s plan and guard your heart

Wanting a spouse and family for yourself is perfectly normal but it is important to guard your heart and trust in God to lead you down the right path. Desire should be met with caution and wisdom at all times no matter what that desire may be.

It is all too easy to focus so much on changing your living situation that you lose your focus on God and with the goal of marriage and relationships becoming an idol that we prioritise over God. This isn’t to say that couples cannot be fully dedicated to God together but be wary of praying for a change you want in your life rather than for the one that God wants you to make. After all, as the Bible says the most important thing we must do as followers of Christ is to set our minds on the things that are above, not on things that are on earth (Colossians 3:2).

Allowing desire to overcome God’s will is the idolatry that we are warned about in the Scripture (1 John 5:20-21) and whilst it is tempting to look around you at those in relationships with jealousy you should keep in mind that all blessings come with their own challenges that must be overcome. Seek God’s Kingdom above all else and He will provide you with all the good things you truly need in your life (Matthew 6:33-34).

Remember, God has good things planned for us all, with or without a spouse (Jeremiah 29:11) and attending our Singles ministry will help you to bear this in mind and avoid making mistakes in an attempt to achieve the lifestyle others may make you believe is the one which God wants for us all. Everyone has their own journey set out for them by God and meeting with others in a similar situation can help you to stay on track and avoid being led astray.

Working in the Community

Community outreach has always been a fundamental part of London Church, for we honour God by serving others who wishes us to use our gifts from Him to help others (1 Corinthians 12:4-6).

Our single ministry takes this mission seriously, volunteering with our community outreach programmes and assisting with charity work on projects across London, including working with charity HOPE Worldwide UK whom we have had a close relationship with for over 30 years.

Church of Christ Single Events

Every Sunday, we meet as a congregation, single, married, and everything in-between to worship, pray, and enjoy sermons and lessons on a variety of spiritual topics. If you are new to the Church please have a chat to any of our members about anything that the scriptures say that you don’t understand or wish to discuss. All of our members at London Church of Christ are passionate about spreading the Word of God and equipped in teaching the principles of the Bible.

Alongside our Sunday services, our singles ministry meets on a weekly basis, providing a space for singles to come together and meet with others in similar situations who are seeking a Christian connection in their lives. We encourage conversations on all sorts of different topics, especially those that haven’t come up before.

We split our sessions between Bible-based discussion and social activity based events and have enjoyed each other’s company at BBQ’s, coffee shops, team building days out in the countryside in the past, and have lots of exciting things planned for the future.

At London Church of Christ, we often attend events hosted by other International Churches, including the annual European Singles Retreat, most recently held in Rome, Italy. The singles in our congregation also meet online as well as in person with other Christian singles from across the globe through events such as the International Singles Devotional held on YouTube.

For more information on any of these events or to find out the date of upcoming events near you, please get in touch with one of our groups. We can’t wait to meet you!
